Life chances through technology

In partnership with Reading Borough Council and the Digital Inclusion Team of Central Government over 60 organisations from the private, public and voluntary sectors came together to discuss how technology could play a role in assisting and preventing NEET (Not in Education, Employment and Training) young people in Reading.

The day long workshop held in May 2009 included brainstorming around key themes that had been identified as triggers for young people becoming NEET. The delegates worked in groups to innovate technological solutions and the groups voted for their favourite idea to be taken to the next stage of the process. Thanks to Connect Reading's roll in engaging the Digital Inclusion Team in the NEET discussion in Reading, this project is being used as a test case and if successful will be rolled out nationwide.
